Barking Doggie

I have been in numerous occasions wherein my dog was barking at almost everyone and everything. That was not at all very nice. But what can we do, dogs will be dogs, and it is only natural for them to bark. It is a way for them to communicate with us humans or to plainly express themselves. Although it is indeed useful that your dog barks when detecting danger or other hostile things, excessive barking can also get the better part of us. Now that leads me to the question, “How do I stop my dog from barking at everything?” Well a solution would be to make your dog understand when to bark and when to be quiet, easier said than done huh? But the longer you delay this, the harder it will be to mold his behavior. So get to it as soon as you can.

No, how do I stop my dog from barking at everything? For us to know how to do that, we must first know the reasons why our dogs bark. Though it may seem like it at times, dogs just don’t bark just to annoy you or your neighbors nor do they bark just because they can. Dogs normally bark when it senses danger or a threat. It is like their way of saying “I’m protecting this place so don’t ever think of messing with me.”  Some dogs bark when they are excited. This is usually common in puppies but also happens in older dogs when they get excited. Some bark to get your attention, it’s like saying “Hey! Yuhoo, I’m here!” And the most common reason for me is barking in response to other dogs. You may have experience this when one dog from down the street begins to bark and all of the sudden the rest of the dogs in the area joins in. I must admit, that could really get annoying at times.

Now that we have named a couple of factors that may be the reason of our dogs’ barking at everything, we can probably begin to control their behavior. The simplest way that I can think of to prevent excessive barking is to eliminate or remove any potential factors that may lead to barking. Giving them proper attention and not getting them bored could help too. Yes, dogs are not exempted from boredom. Also remember that shouting at your dog to stop barking does not, in any way, help. It may even cause him to bark even louder. Do not also comfort, hug or feed your dog when he is barking for attention, this means you are rewarding the behavior, so in turn your dog would think you are encouraging it. I would also like to discourage the use of shock collars. Not only are they painful and very unkind, your dogs will be able to eventually work around them and might hate you for that. Dogs have feelings to you know. These are just a few of the things you can try to lessen your dogs barking.

If the excessive barking still continues then you may want to try an electronic device that anyone can use to stop your dog from barking. These can be used simply and easily by just clicking a button and can be taken anywhere. There are a few on the market and they are very cheap, especially considering what they can achieve.
